TODAY'S KIDS ARE SMARTER AND SADDER
It’s not just cliche to say that the American youth are the future of our society. Wherever they currently stand, and, more importantly, are headed inform us on where we’ll be in the future. But there’s’ great news! Studies are saying that the youth of today are far less sexually active and engaged with drugs than reported a decade ago. In fact, out of the sexually active teens, more are using condoms. Out of the teens who use narcotics, less are injecting themselves with needles.
The bad news is there is an increase in teens who feel depressed. Much of this group have entertained thoughts of suicide. These numbers are higher than those of the youth from a decade ago. The main attribution seems to be not so much bullying, but strong peer pressure. A significant portion of those kids who engaged in early sexual activity has admitted they unwillingly participated.
Clearly, something needs to be done. Our youth appear to be more informed, yet more than ever susceptible to the vulnerability of their naivety. Finding a solution is literally a matter of life and death.
