“Love is at the root of everything–all learning; all relationships. Love or the lack of it.”
The decades-old words of television icon Fred Rogers speaks directly to the wellvyl ethos. It’s why we’re so excited about the upcoming documentary “Won’t You Be My Neighbor,” centered on the classic television series “Mister Rogers Neighborhood.”
The Focus Features production offers beautiful trips down memory lane with old footage from the groundbreaking show and interviews from those behind the scenes as well as some of the shows more popular characters (we are very excited about the participation of Elizabeth Seamans, who played Mrs. McFeely). Possibly most intriguing is the film’s promise to give a look into the “radical” nature of the unassuming American idol that was Fred Rogers.
Debuting during some dark times in America, “Mister Rogers Neighborhood” addressed convoluted topics like divorce, war, and fracturing racial barriers to children…and their parents. With the states of today’s America standing more divided than ever, a return to TV’s pillar of human love couldn’t be more timely.
“Won’t You Be My Neighbor?” premieres June 8.
