SLACK LEADS DIVERSITY IN SILICON VALLEY
In case you’ve been under a rock (smile), the Wellvyl ethos is built with and for diversity. When we say “Wellness to the people,” we mean ALL people. We talk it like we walk it, from our fruit punch of a staff to our event producers. It’s why the Wellvyl staff communicates primarily through Slack. In the tech space, there are few companies which talk and walk diversity more than this fairly new messaging app.
Compared to Google, Facebook, and Microsoft’s percentage of women in leadership roles, Slack averages an estimated 10% higher. In fact, female employees make up a third of Slack’s leadership an technical roles, and in regards to minority hiring, in some cases, triple their competitors.
These numbers are not by accident. Since Slack’s inception (2014), the company has made a concerted effort to build a company with inclusion. Their recruitment process is a wonderful read. One highlight is their search for keywords. While Amazon’s search hones in more males with words like “competing,” Slack allows for more female acceptance with words like “lasting relationships.” Sound familiar?
