MAYOR GIFTS NYC MORE BOATS
New York City is populated by nearly 9 million people. Crazy thing is, it’s still growing. Mayor Bill de Blasio knows this. It’s why, this morning, he announced an initiative that will add bigger and more frequent ferries to NYC’s water commute system. The plan will see de Blasio’s administration spend an additional $300 million over the next 5 years.
In addition to an increase in boat volume and frequency, New Yorkers will receive a nonstop “rush-hour express” run between the Rockaways and Manhattan’s financial district, as well as chartered boats that run every 20 to 30 minutes on all four of its routes, decreasing the wait time by half from last summer.
While the Big Apple awaits the promised bigger boats, the city is offering passengers charter boats capable of carrying up to 500 passengers. With the influx of transplants and towering residential buildings appearing to pop up every other day, some days feel like New York is bursting at the seams. Good to know the Mayorial administration is looking to ensure that navigating in and around the Big Apple doesn’t become anymore uncomfortable than it already is.
