KAVANAUGH IS SWORN IN; NOW WHAT?

We are in a time of extremes. And it can be scary and confusing at times.

On one end, we have the #MeToo movement, the Women’s March, and the rise of feminism in the media. We are being represented in more fields that were dominated by men. Women have more visibility.

But at the same time, we have, Bill Cosby, Harvey Weinstein, and the many others who have been accused of sexual assault and harassment. All of this being mirrored by our current president.

Trump is divisive, racist, sexist, stupid and more adjectives I care not to list. It is still shocking to think that he is really president. And now, Brett Kavanaugh is a supreme court justice.

That is right, he is in a high level of power. A man that has been accused of the unthinkable. A man that we watched exude guilt, anger, and obviously questionable values when it comes to how to treat women.

We have heard Trump defend and support him. And now he is officially sworn in. I know there are many women who are still in shock. It did not take long for the public express their outrage. Women’s rights groups have shared their platform for people to express themselves. It is good to see men protesting in support of women.

This was an example of when we need to believe women. First, we get slack for not speaking up in the first place. And when we do, this is what happens. It is scary to think what this means for the future of justice for women.

Judge Brett Kavanaugh, who was narrowly approved, has a disturbing record. When thinking of his ideas when it comes to abortion, the president and guns, this is not someone we want in power. This must give us more determination to get our voices heard. To vote and do everything we can to make our daily lives safe for one another.
