HOW MASS SHOOTINGS AFFECT DOCTORS
America’s gun issue seems to be it is most daunting. The lack of concern for innocent lives by the greedy National Rifle Association (NRA) has sent child students to an early grave and caused many across the country to become activists against loose firearm laws. While the bloodshed and loss of life dominate this epidemic, many haven’t viewed these violent times from another perspective: the medical heroes who have to tend to the victims of mass shootings. In a recent New York Times article, two surgeons from the trauma unit at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville (which tended to victims of the latest Waffle House shooting), discuss what it’s like to constantly receive piles of bullet-riddled bodies over a few months.
