ALYSSA EXPOSITO
Alyssa is the community manager at the female-only gym, Uplift Studios in Flatiron. Do not let her frame fool you, Alyssa is a force to be reckoned with. She uses her story of triumph, and determination to be a constant motivator for her clients. Peep the Ladies Night In events here.
There is something inherently powerful and beautiful to get people who are absolute strangers, in a room, and allot 45-55minutes for them to not feel estranged at all. I take a lot of pride in knowing that I actively work to create spaces and experiences that not only make people feel welcomed but comfortable and safe.
NATALIE BROOKE
THE OMM GIRL.
Natalie lives to create brave spaces for women to grow through honest reflection and self-love. Inspired by her own journeys of self-discovery, she wants to in turn empower other women to do the same. Omm Girls in Brooklyn, NY.
Patricia Rogers: What inspired you to create Omm Girls?
Natalie Brooke: Like many women, I have spent the majority of my life battling the demon of comparison. I always felt like I was “too much” of something or another. When I decided to really shift my mindset and this perception of ‘health’ and ‘beauty’ (my ‘aha’ moment, if you will) I knew I was intended to help support others in this journey- specifically women.
I would like women to truly understand that health is more than a physical thing. If you have a very toned and together body but go home every night and cry yourself to sleep are you healthy? I would say no. I feel our society still places health on a physical level and while our bodies are apart of it, it’s not all of it.
KELLY BATES
THE SOULFUL TRAVELER.
Have you always wanted to travel the world, try out the wellness retreats you have been hearing about? But do not know where to start? Kelly Bates is here to satisfy that wanderlust.
Kelly: I decided to create Travel Souly retreats because I know there are so many women who truly have the desire to travel, but for whatever reason, they don’t have a travel companion and they are too afraid to travel alone. Therefore, I wanted to create a comfortable environment in which women can surround themselves with like-minded individuals while exploring fabulous destinations. I decided to bring fitness and wellness into the mix because I believe it’s simply food for the soul.
What makes Travel Souly Retreats different than other wellness retreats?
Kelly: Travel Souly provides group travel exclusively for solo female travelers with an emphasis on healing the soul through the spirit of adventure. A full itinerary is planned, and it includes tours, fitness classes, massages, adventures, and pure relaxation. Each traveler will stay in her own room in either a 4-star or 5-star hotel. As the travel leader, I act as the glue that brings the travelers together, while keeping the vibe positive. We are all on our individual journeys and no matter what our situation may be, our energy is shared with those around us. It’s quite powerful and uplifting, and I want each traveler to have the best experience. I want her to return home feeling like she could rule the world.

MARIA CHRISTODOULOU
THE BLISSFUL ONE.
Maria Christodoulou yearning to blend her professional life with her newfound love for travel, and life-changing retreats, created her own retreat planning business, Bliss Without Bother.
Why is it important to bring wellness to the people?
Maria: After working more than a decade in an office environment designed not to support the wellbeing of people, I found it crucial that I create wellness opportunities designed for those who are exhausted from the daily grind. I often struggled with adrenal exhaustion and felt either too tired or too confused on how best to take care of myself both at work and at home. I realized that the most rejuvenating and healing experiences for me were those spent in supportive communities, whether I was at a yoga class in my neighborhood or at a retreat in Ecuador, creating that time away from routine and daily stress helped me find more balance and feel more grounded.

SCHNELLE “NELLIE”
THE ACTIVE BROOKLYN MAMA.
Schnelle is one of the inspiring women, where you must ask yourself, does she have the same hours in a day that we all do? She is a force, active, and a great mom!
How did Brooklyn Active Mama come to be?
Right before I got pregnant with my second son in 2011, I had been on a really successful weight loss journey. I had lost 30 pounds, and I was really into working out and doing a variety of physical activities. When I got pregnant, I was overjoyed, however, my pregnancy came with some complications that meant that I couldn’t move the way I wanted to. I started journaling my pregnancy and the days that I felt great, and the days that were hard. Within a year I had a devoted community of working moms who love to workout. For the past six years, I’ve been sharing fitness and parenting tips and tricks including my own personal workout journey with these amazing women.
