\n<\/span>yesterday morning i saw a cockroach <\/span>
\n<\/span>crawl out of my bedside table.<\/span>
\n<\/span>in a scurry it left the drawer where <\/span>
\n<\/span>i keep gum wrappers<\/span>
\n<\/span>and cashed checks<\/span>
\n<\/span>and made it’s life in mine.<\/span><\/p>\n


\n<\/span>it began as a gentle touch<\/span>
\n<\/span>hair, shirt, sweat<\/span>
\n<\/span>a squirm and a cringe<\/span>
\n<\/span>a million cactus hairs<\/span>
\n<\/span>hissing through a greasy shell.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>out in the world<\/span>
\n<\/span>i carried cockroaches for coins<\/span>
\n<\/span>used them to pay for coffee<\/span>
\n<\/span>until it started to get dark.<\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>at sunset the cockroach jumped <\/span><\/p>\n

to my shoulder, barked<\/span><\/p>\n

“plant one on me!”<\/span>
\n<\/span>and snapped it’s big <\/span>
\n<\/span>claw of a kisser in my face<\/span>
\n<\/span>all while throwing around<\/span>
\n<\/span>it’s antennae like they were demanding an encore. <\/span>
\n<\/span>
\n<\/span>when i got home that night <\/span>
\n<\/span>and looked in the mirror i saw that<\/span>
\n<\/span>i had become the cockroach<\/span><\/p>\n

writhing and dirty<\/span>
\n<\/span>and trying not to fall on my back.<\/span>
\n<\/span><\/p>\n
