It also means less time for getting to the gym. \u00a0And maybe you don\u2019t feel like being within the confines of closed doors when the weather is so nice and refreshing. \u00a0Let NYC be your gym. What I mean is: bring your workout to the urban outdoors that is NYC!<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The advantages of outdoor workouts are endless. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Research suggests that exercising outside provides more benefits than indoors, like \u201cgreater feelings of revitalization and positive engagement, decreases in tension, confusion, anger, and depression and increased <a href=\"https:\/\/pubs.acs.org\/doi\/abs\/10.1021\/es102947t\">energy<\/a>.\u201d <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Taking your workout to NYC\u2019s great outdoors also saves money. \u00a0Lots of gyms will let you freeze your membership for a period of time or you can just cancel it until you\u2019re too cold to workout outside. \u00a0Outdoor exercise is also a way to get your daily dose of vitamin D through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.everydayhealth.com\/fitness\/outdoor-exercise-benefits.aspx\">sunlight<\/a>. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Vitamin D is important because it helps your body sustain normal levels of calcium and phosphorus. \u00a0It also helps keep your muscles, nerves and immune system <a href=\"https:\/\/newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org\/discussion\/mayo-clinic-q-and-a-how-much-vitamin-d-do-i-need\/\">healthy<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wellvyl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/justyn-warner-532062-unsplash.jpg\"><img alt=\"justyn warner 532062 unsplash\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-60513\" src=\"https:\/\/wellvyl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/justyn-warner-532062-unsplash-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wellvyl.com\/media\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2018\/07\/justyn-warner-532062-unsplash-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/wellvyl.com\/media\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2018\/07\/justyn-warner-532062-unsplash-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/wellvyl.com\/media\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2018\/07\/justyn-warner-532062-unsplash-683x1024.jpg 683w, https:\/\/wellvyl.com\/media\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2018\/07\/justyn-warner-532062-unsplash-700x1050.jpg 700w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>But <\/b><b><i>where<\/i><\/b><b> am I supposed to get my workout in?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Now I know at least one thing you might be thinking\u2026this is NYC \u2013 where am I supposed to workout outside? \u00a0What if I don\u2019t live near Central Park? Not to worry! <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nycgovparks.org\/events\/outdoor-fitness\">NYC Parks<\/a> is offering hundreds of FREE group fitness events all over the five boroughs this summer to help you stay in shape. \u00a0From Tai Chi in Bryant Park to waterfront Zumba in Queens and guided meditation in the Bronx \u2013 you should have no issues trying to find the type of fitness class you\u2019re looking for. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0And if you prefer to workout on your own, many NYC parks offer free <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nycgovparks.org\/facilities\/fitnessequipment\">fitness equipment<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you\u2019re looking for something a little more unconventional, there\u2019s always <a href=\"https:\/\/wellvyl.com\/plogging-nyc\/\">Plogging<\/a>. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The term \u201cPlogging\u201d is the combination <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of the words \u201cpick up\u201d and \u201cjogging.\u201d \u00a0It\u2019s an exercise originating in Sweden that enc<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">ourages participants to clean up the streets by adding squats and lunges to your jog while picking up litter.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Not sure where to plog? \u00a0Free &amp; Fit NYC <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">meets at the Highline Hotel to walk, jog or run whilst picking up litter on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.freenfit.org\/events\/f-f-nyc-plogging-1\">Chelsea Waterside<\/a>. You\u2019ll be provided with biodegradable gloves and bags! \u00a0\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">And on that rare occasion you\u2019re not in a rush, try getting out of the subway one or two stations before your stop and walk the rest of the way to wherever you have to be. \u00a0And while not free, there\u2019s also the option of grabbing a Citi Bike or kayaking with the Brooklyn Bridge Boathouse at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.brooklynbridgepark.org\/events\/kayaking\">Brooklyn Bridge Park<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/wellvyl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/ev-625717-unsplash.jpg\"><img alt=\"\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-60514 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/wellvyl.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/ev-625717-unsplash-300x198.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" \/><\/a>Why are you still on a treadmill?!<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Still not convinced? \u00a0Getting to the closest local park, taking a \u201cplog\u201d around the city, or walking instead of public transportation is also a great way to meet people and potentially run into familiar faces. \u00a0And if you\u2019re participating in an organized activity, it\u2019s an easy way to make friends and connect with others that care about wellness and fitness.
