According to an <\/span>official site of the United States Government<\/span><\/a>, deportation \u201cis the removal of a foreign national from the U.S. for violating an immigration law.\u201d The deportation process includes those that take part in criminal acts, considered a threat to public safety, or who violate their visa. These cases can be expedited or be seen by a judge. <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

The fact-checking site, Snopes, states that \u201cStatistically, more people were deported from the U.S. during the administration of President Barack Obama than during that of any other president.\u201d It also must be noted that this was due to a change in the definition of deportation and not the actual number of people deported. <\/span><\/p>\n

NY Daily New<\/span><\/a>s explores the relationship of the federal government notifying local governments of the number of separated immigrant children. They write, Gov. Cuomo, said \u201cthe state will provide support services to not only those children being housed in foster care facilities but also those who have been discharged into private homes\u201d throughout New York. <\/span><\/p>\n

This is the basic question of how you treat children,\u201d Cuomo said. \u201cIt\u2019s a question of humanity. It\u2019s a question of values.\u201d<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This comes after <\/span>CNN reporting<\/span><\/a> that Mayor De Blasio said \u201che just learned that 239 migrant children are in the care of Cayuga Centers in Harlem, which contracts with the federal government to help unaccompanied minors. The children include a 9-month-old, he said.\u201d No one stepped forward to notify De Blasio that they were even there. Where is the accountability and who should be held responsible? <\/span><\/p>\n

Roughly 350 children have been left in the care of New York homes and facilities since the Trump Administration issued its zero-tolerance policy of illegal border crossing. The president\u2019s administration has recently released their plans on reuniting over 2000 children with their migrant parents. <\/span><\/p>\n

USA Today notes that \u201cImmigration and human-rights attorneys have said they’ve been concerned that many children may never be reunited with their parent because migrant parents fleeing violence often do not have documentation to prove familial relationships.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

What does this all mean for wellness? How can you better yourself when the country in which you live is ripping children away from their parents? How will we as a country know when these children have been reunited with their families? <\/span><\/p>\n

These are important questions during important times. In a 5-4 ruling, the Supreme Court has ruled to uphold Trump\u2019s travel ban. Countries that do not meet the baseline security requirements, within the scope of the president, are not allowed to come into the country in order to protect national security. <\/span><\/p>\n

However, some politicians are pushing back. On Tuesday, <\/span>Chris Coons<\/span><\/a> (D-Del) said, “In the coming weeks, I plan to introduce legislation to make clear that in the United States, we will not tolerate discrimination based on religion or nationality, and I invite everyone who treasures our American values to join me in defending them.”<\/span><\/p>\n

I treasure being American. I treasure being human. I most importantly treasure all those different from me. My interactions and experiences with people from different cultures have broadened my perspective on the world and humanity. In order to live better and be better, we must value everyone that we come across. Children being raised without their parents is not the American dream. <\/span><\/p>\n
