There are options like psychotherapy or medication, both of which require the aid and guidance of a licensed primary care physician. But what are some ways in which we can help ourselves improve health when dealing with a diagnosis like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)? Some experts point toward the arts.<\/p>\n<p>Using artistic expression as an outlet and cathartic tool is recommended to those who are still dealing with the memory or forgotten memory of a tragic memory. Sufferers may not have the words to express their pain verbally. They&#8217;re encouraged to try non-verbal art forms to communicate\u2013dance or sculpt or paint. In fact,\u00a0 drawing and painting have long been a fruitful outlet for children dealing with trauma. A child may not have the articulation to convey such deep and dark foreign feelings. But they can speak as articulate as ever with a crayon, pencil or paintbrush.<\/p>\n<p>An example of art helping the healing process is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/06\/07\/well\/how-i-used-art-to-get-through-trauma.html\">told by writer Terry Sullivan<\/a>, who dealt with his own trauma and found his healthier self in the act of drawing.
