WTF IS PLOGGING?!

WTF IS PLOGGING?!

What is Plogging?

“Plogging” is the combination of jogging, and the Swedish phrase plocka up, meaning “pick up,”. Encourages you to clean up the streets by adding squats and lunges to your jog to pick up litter. Wear what you would normally for a run, but take a bag with you to collect recyclables.

The trend, of course, has its own hashtag and is already taking over social media. But we can not turn our noses up on using fitness to help the environment.

Plogging in New York City?

All of the latest trends either start in New York or end here. So yeah, give it a try. Keep in mind:

Even the parks or jogging lanes are crowded. However, all streets can be cleaned. It may be hard to stop to squat and pick up trash.

Be polite! Say excuse me to fellow joggers and pedestrians.

Take that as a chance to educate. Let New Yorkers know what you are doing, and maybe they will try it when it is time for their jog.

Invite friends, and make it a group activity. Want to add a fun element? Make it a competition. See who can collect the most litter and buy them a match shot!

Practice safety. Be aware of your surroundings when stopping to pick up pieces.

Practice form when doing squats and plunges. Do not push yourself.

Carry a plastic bag to collect all that you can. This is a great way to reuse plastic bags

What are the health benefits to plogging?

In addition to the health benefits that are already achieved while jogging: builds strong bones, strengthens muscles, improves cardiovascular fitness, and more. Plogging adds the further elements ensures a fun, different, and eco-friendly experience. For more information visit here.
