NYC TO HOUSE INMATES BY GENDER IDENTITY
Following the lead of gender-identity progressive cities such as San Francisco and Houston, come October, New York City will begin housing inmates according to the gender each identifies with. This new mandate, powered and intended to be upheld by the Department of Corrections (DOC) and the New York City Human Rights Commission (CCHR), aims for a goal that is two-fold. 1. Protect the rights and dignity of transgender and gender non-conforming inmates. 2. Decrease the amount of gender discrimination and sexual assault in NYC prison facilities. In six months, all inmates will have the right to live in any single-sex facility without medical documentation.
Mayor Bill de Blasio and the DOC have done much wrong, but it appears they may have gotten this one right. Read up on this new law here.
